During Wednesday’s episode of Good Morning Britain, Richard Madeley abruptly paused the programme to contact colleague Kate Garraway live on air.
In the show, 68-year-old Richard and co-presenter Susanna Reid were chatting with Melvin Odoom about the latest celebrity gossip.
The conversation turned to whispers of the Celebrity Traitors line-up, which is said to feature their fellow presenter, 57-year-old Kate.
Melvin, 44, quipped: “None of us have been able to get hold of Kate on the phone to confirm or deny this but I don’t know about you guys, but I’m very suspicious and it makes me even more suspicious.”
Susanna, 54, humorously added: “She’ll make an excellent Traitor if we can’t even get hold of her!” Melvin then urged: “I think you need to send her a message right now!” to which Susanna responded: “She’ll neither confirm nor deny, I’m sure!” Meanwhile, Melvin insisted: “Let’s do it anyway!”, reports the Manchester Evening News.
Following the prompt, Richard reached for his phone and attempted to reach Kate live on the programme. An inquisitive Melvin asked: “Have you done it?” with Richard replying: “Yeah…” prompting Melvin to probe further: “Nothing yet?”.
It comes as it was reported that Kate has signed up for Celebrity Traitors, BBC’s inaugural celebrity adaptation of the hit reality show.
The 57-year-old television star is expected to join the ranks of Stephen Fry, 67, and ex-England rugby ace Joe Marler, 34, at Ardross Castle in Scotland.
Kate is certainly familiar with the demands of reality TV, having been a contestant on I’m A Celebrity: Get Me Out of Here! back in 2019, where she impressed with a fourth-place finish.
EastEnders actress Jacqueline Jossa emerged as the victor of that series. The host also graced The Masked Singer, unmasked as Spag Bol earlier this year.
In 2007, Kate twirled onto the Strictly Come Dancing floor, partnered with professional dancer Anton Du Beke.
Other potential celebrities joining the Celebrity Traitors line-up include Charlotte Church, Bob Mortimer, Alan Carr, Jonathan Ross and Joe Marler, alongside Nick Mohammed, Tom Daley, David Olusoga, Niko Omilana, Mark Bonnar, Joe Wilkinson, Tameka Empson, Clare Balding and Paloma Faith, to name just a few.
It is believed that filming for the beloved BBC show has already kicked off – with Claudia Winkleman taking the helm as host.
Meanwhile, Martin Lewis, Kate’s co-star from Good Morning Britain, took to Twitter, now X, to set the record straight about his non-participation in the show.
He penned on Tuesday: “I’m no traitor (sadly). I’ve got FOMO looking at the Celebrity Traitors line up. I was asked, but said no as I couldn’t commit the time. I hadn’t watched it then (but watched the last series after that & loved it) so now feel a little gutted (though I still don’t have the time).”
Good Morning Britain continues on weekdays at 6am on ITV and ITV X.
