Canadian shot put athlete Sarah Mitton secured second place at the Brussels Diamond League track and field event on Friday. The victory went to American competitor Chase Jackson, who set a new meet record with a throw reaching 20.90 meters. Mitton, who had already guaranteed her spot in the upcoming Diamond League Final in Zurich, achieved a distance of 19.89m.
Hailing from Brooklyn, N.S., Mitton currently holds the third position in the standings, trailing world champion Jackson and Jessica Schilder from the Netherlands, who won silver behind Mitton at the indoor world championships earlier this year. Mitton claimed her first Diamond League Trophy in September, joining past winners such as Priscilla Lopes-Schliep, Dylan Armstrong, and Andre De Grasse.
