Shocking moment two thugs torch dad’s £50,000 Mercedes while he’s home with children

Must read

Two thugs were caught on camera attacking a man’s car on his driveway, while he and his children were sleeping at home in the middle of the night.

The pair entered the driveway of Tom Donohue, 30, and lit his £50,000 Mercedes S-Class on fire, writing it off. The video also showed them smashing the front left window of his red Range Rover Sport in the early morning incident at around 5.30am in Wirral, in Merseyside.

Earlier that evening two thugs also severely damaged his milkshake shop, Frozen Moments, by throwing a brick through the front window whilst customers were still inside.

Mr Donohue, who has been staying at a hotel for his own safety since the attack, said: “I’ve got no idea who could have done this or what their reasons are for doing. I have never been in trouble with the police for anything.

“I was awoken by the hacking on the window of the Range Rover. I got out off bed, saw what was happening, so I started shouting at them through my bedroom window, which was when they fled the scene.

Mr Donohue added one of the criminals returned to his house and attempted to throw a brick through his front window, which is used as a playroom for his children. He added: “Luckily it hit plastic at the top and not the window as if it had the fire could have gotten into the house which would have been devastating.”

Merseyside Fire & Rescue Service attended the incident. On arrival firefighters found one vehicle on fire in the driveway of the property which was extinguished before leaving at 6.56am.

Merseyside Police said an investigation is underway and CCTV and witness enquiries are in the process of being carried out following the incident on Monday morning. Detective Inspector Peter Rexwinkel said: “It is believed two males were seen on a scooter in the area at the time of the incident and enquiries are ongoing to trace them.

“We are appealing for anyone in the area of Upton Road who saw or heard anything suspicious or believe they captured something significant on a doorbell camera or CCTV camera to contact us.”
