Snooker sensation Kyren Wilson has revealed the challenging times he and his wife, Sophie, have been facing away from the snooker scene. Despite his current position as the second-best player globally, having clinched the World Championship in 2024 and the Shanghai Masters title this season, Wilson has encountered setbacks in recent tournaments.
The snooker star faced premature eliminations at the Saudi Arabia Snooker Masters, the Wuhan Open, the English Open, and the British Open. However, his struggles extended beyond snooker as his wife underwent health treatment, causing Wilson to take a break from the game for several weeks.
Opening up about his personal turmoil, Wilson shared, “My wife has been very unwell, so I’ve had to step back from snooker for almost a month now. With her recovery progressing, I can now refocus on my game and hopefully regain my usual form.”
Despite the challenges, Wilson made a spontaneous decision to participate in the Xi’an Grand Prix, acknowledging the sacrifices he and his family make for his snooker career. Currently, in positive form at the tournament, Wilson recently defeated Haris Tahir in the opening round, showcasing his skill with a maximum 147 break in a previous competition.
Married to Sophie since 2016, the couple has two children, Finley and Baily. Sophie, who previously underwent surgery after suffering a stroke during the Wuhan tournament, is now on the path to recovery. As Wilson continues to compete, he hopes for a resurgence in his performance akin to his wife’s recovery.
