Wimbledon titleholder Iga Swiatek emerged victorious against Yuan Yue with a score of 6-0, 6-3 at the China Open in Beijing, progressing to the third round and making WTA Tour history in the process. The WTA announced that Swiatek, by securing this win, has become the first player to achieve 25 or more victories at WTA-1000 events for three consecutive seasons.

Seeded at the top, Swiatek, who recently claimed victory at the Korea Open in Seoul, boasts an impressive record of winning the French Open four times and the U.S. Open once, totaling six Grand Slam singles titles. During earlier matches in Beijing on Saturday, fourth-seeded Mirra Andreeva triumphed over Zhu Lin with a score of 6-2, 6-2, while American Emma Navarro defeated Elena-Gabriel Ruse 6-3, 7-6 (0).

In another match, Naomi Osaka initially took the lead in her second-round match but was overtaken by Aliaksandra Sasnovich, who secured victory with a score of 1-6, 6-4, 6-2. Emma Raducanu was set to compete later in the day, and a match between Canada’s Leylah Fernandez and American Coco Gauff is scheduled for Sunday in the round of 32.

Simultaneously, the tournament is running alongside an ATP 500 men’s event, where Jannik Sinner defeated Terence Atmane with a score of 6-4, 5-7, 6-0, advancing to the quarterfinals. Sinner, the runner-up in the recent U.S. Open final against Carlos Alcaraz, dominated his first-round match against Marin Cilic, conceding only four games.
