The 1% Club’s Lee Mack faces backlash as ITV fans slam ‘brutal’ remark

Must read

Viewers of The 1% Club didn’t hold back their criticism of ITV host Lee Mack following his ‘insensitive’ quip directed at a contestant.

In the episode, participant Dianne was knocked out of the competition after failing to answer a question correctly, ending her chance to join the elite 1% club.

When Lee inquired about her plans for the prize money, she confessed: “If I won, I would’ve got a nose job.”

Lee responded with surprise, saying: “Your nose is fantastic, why do you need to change your nose?” Dianne admitted her dislike for her nose, a feature she’s never been happy with.

However, it was Lee’s next comment that sparked controversy: “It does look like, though, that if you took those glasses off, the nose might come off as well.”

While the studio audience erupted into laughter, viewers at home were far from amused by the remark, reports Bristol Live.

Social media was abuzz with reactions, as disgruntled fans expressed their opinions on Twitter. One viewer exclaimed: “F***s sake Lee. She’ll definitely have a complex about her nose now ! #The1PercentClub”

Another chimed in, tweeting: “That was quite insensitive.”

Someone else reeled: “Did he just say that about her nose?!” Agreeing with another tweet, a user remarked: “Quite an insensitive comment, wasn’t it?”

Another tweeted: “Gosh, I hope the lady with the nose cleared it for Lee to take the p*** before the show. That was brutal!”

Dianne wasn’t the only one on the receiving end of Lee’s sharp tongue that evening; the show also introduced viewers to a woman named Dr Panda.

During a captivating episode of the show, host Lee probed paediatrician Dr. Panda on why she fancied her chances at victory.

The brainy contestant boasted: “When I was young, I was part of mensa, at the age of 10.”

Curiosity piqued, Lee enquired about her impressive IQ, to which she disclosed a figure of roughly 154.

Not stopping there, she continued: “I did do maths GCSE when I was eight as well, and I got an A.”

To this, a bemused Lee retorted: “Really? Wow, there is a fine line between confident and showing off.”

Though seeming to be a strong contender, Dr. Panda’s journey on the ITV show was cut short as she left the competition earlier than expected.

At the end of it all, the grand winner emerged as Dominic Jackson scooped up a handsome sum of £96,000.

The 1% Club is available to watch on ITVX.
