“U.S. Considers Supplying Tomahawk Missiles to Ukraine”

-

As Ukraine’s Volodymyr Zelenskyy visited the White House for talks with U.S. President Donald Trump, the focus shifted to the potential supply of Tomahawk missiles to Ukraine. This move could enable Ukraine to strike deep within Russia, escalating the conflict significantly.

During a working lunch, Trump commented on the implications of providing Tomahawk missiles, recognizing both the capabilities and risks associated with them. While discussing the possibility, Trump indicated no firm commitment, expressing hope for a resolution to the conflict without the need for such weaponry.

Tomahawk missiles are long-range weapons with a reach of at least 1,600 kilometers, capable of precise targeting due to their low flying profile. Despite the U.S. possessing a significant number of Tomahawks, the supply is diminishing, with limited new orders in recent years.

If the U.S. decides to sell Tomahawk missiles to Ukraine through European allies, it remains uncertain how many missiles would be available. Challenges also exist in terms of launching the missiles, as Ukraine lacks the naval capacity to deploy them from ships or submarines.

Ukraine’s interest in acquiring Tomahawk missiles stems from a desire to strike deep into Russian territory. However, this move raises concerns among Western allies, including the U.S., as it could provoke Russia and escalate tensions further.

The potential use of Tomahawk missiles on strategic targets, such as energy infrastructure, could have significant economic repercussions. Recent drone strikes by Ukraine on Russian energy facilities have already impacted fuel supplies and prices in Russia.

While the impact of such actions on Russia’s economy is notable, particularly in the context of rising gasoline prices and supply shortages, the full extent of the consequences remains uncertain. The targeting of critical energy facilities with Tomahawk missiles would represent a significant escalation in the conflict between Ukraine and Russia.
