The City of Vancouver has honored actor Ryan Reynolds, a prominent Hollywood star and Vancouver native, with the Freedom of the City award for his philanthropic and cultural contributions. Reynolds, known for his roles in films like the Deadpool series, has been commended for his dedication to giving back to the community by supporting local charities such as Covenant House Vancouver and the Greater Vancouver Food Bank, as well as making donations in response to the 2021 B.C. floods.

Expressing his gratitude in a city news release, Reynolds stated, “This means the world to me. Vancouver shaped who I am, and I carry it with me in everything I do.” He further added, “To now be part of its history in this way is both humbling and surreal, and I’m deeply grateful to be recognized by the city that gave me my start.”

Reynolds, who has previously received the Order of British Columbia and the Order of Canada, received the Freedom of the City award, an exceptional honor reserved for individuals who have achieved significant recognition nationally and internationally while also bringing acclaim to Vancouver.

The award ceremony, held privately on Thursday, highlighted Reynolds’ remarkable contributions, symbolizing his deep connection to Vancouver and its community.
