“Vancouver’s New Pro Women’s Hockey Team Gains Strong Fan Support”

-

Professional women’s hockey player Sarah Nurse anticipated the strong support for the sport in Vancouver well ahead of the successful Take Over Tour at Rogers Arena in January. She highlighted the overwhelming positive response from the public, expressing excitement for the upcoming games and the community’s enthusiasm for women’s hockey.

Nurse, a standout player and goal-scorer, signed with the new Vancouver Professional Women’s Hockey League team in June, becoming a prominent figure for the franchise. Joining her is forward Jenn Gardiner from Surrey, a finalist for PWHL rookie of the year, and fellow B.C. player Hannah Miller. Gardiner emphasized the significance of playing professionally in her home province, inspiring young girls to pursue a career in hockey.

The team’s unveiling in April 2025 showcased a temporary logo, with plans for a permanent logo and team name in progress. Gardiner expressed her excitement for the upcoming season, expecting passionate local fans to create an electrifying atmosphere during home games at the Pacific Coliseum.

Ticket sales have been robust, with additional seating blocks opened due to high demand. However, the team is still deliberating on a team name and logo, considering consultations with local First Nations and trademark regulations. Meanwhile, renovations at the Coliseum are in progress to enhance the fan experience, with the league set to announce the upcoming season schedule soon.
