“Verify Eligibility for Financial Aid Before Budget”

-

Struggling households are being encouraged to verify their eligibility for assistance with living expenses, such as vouchers and financial aid, before the upcoming Budget.

A platform called Lightning Reach assists individuals in locating and applying for various support programs, collaborating with over 2,500 partners and estimating an average user benefit of £750. This service, launched in 2021, has linked more than 200,000 people to over £20 million in financial aid, including grants from councils and charities.

Among the partners accessible through the Lightning Reach website are the British Gas Energy Trust, TSB, and Lambeth Council. To determine eligibility, individuals can utilize the Lightning Reach application portal.

Lightning Reach’s Founder and CEO, Ren Yi Hooi, emphasized the growing need for swift and comprehensive support as the Budget is anticipated to introduce new tax hikes, further straining household finances.

Concerned individuals facing financial difficulties are advised to contact their service providers promptly to explore available assistance options. This may include checking for cost-saving plans or discussing temporary payment breaks.

Moreover, it is advisable to consult with the local council to inquire about potential aid through the Household Support Fund, designed to assist low-income households with expenses. Various councils offer different forms of support, such as vouchers or direct cash payments, based on individual circumstances.

For instance, City of York Council recently initiated a scheme providing one-time £100 cash payments from the Household Support Fund during the winter season. Eligibility for this payment is linked to receiving council tax bill support, with the funds directly deposited into the recipient’s bank account without repayment obligations.

In conclusion, it is crucial for individuals in financial distress to explore available support options and engage with relevant authorities to alleviate economic burdens effectively.
