Weezer Bassist’s Wife Enters Mental Health Program

-

Jillian Shriner, the spouse of Weezer bassist Scott Shriner, has been granted admission to a two-year mental health diversion program following allegations of firing shots at police officers during a manhunt in her Los Angeles neighborhood.

The incident took place in April in Eagle Rock, where law enforcement was pursuing three suspects who had evaded a freeway collision. In the midst of the search operation, Shriner allegedly discharged a firearm, causing commotion on the residential street.

The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office has officially approved the agreement, stipulating that if Jillian successfully fulfills the diversion program requirements, the case will be dismissed by the court.

Law enforcement officials reported that Jillian, also known as Jillian Lauren, was seen armed with a handgun outside her residence, disregarding repeated commands to drop the weapon before firing shots. She was subsequently shot in the shoulder by a LAPD officer and received treatment for non-life-threatening injuries. No officers sustained injuries during the incident.

After being handcuffed at the scene, Jillian was taken into custody and later released on bail after posting $1 million. A firearm was recovered from the Shriner household, and a family babysitter who was detained during the standoff was subsequently released.

Her husband, Scott, was observed walking their dogs near their home the next day, expressing optimism and stating that Jillian was doing fine. The couple, who have been married since 2005 and have two adopted children, are navigating this challenging situation together.

Under the diversion program’s terms set by LA County Superior Court Judge Susan De Witt, Jillian is required to abstain from drugs and alcohol, attend therapy sessions weekly, undergo random testing, engage in three Alcoholics Anonymous meetings per week, and must not possess firearms or knives. Any violation of these conditions could result in termination of the program and a return to court. Jillian is due to provide an update on her progress on January 9.

The altercation unfolded as authorities were pursuing three suspects who had fled a multiple-vehicle crash on the freeway. Eyewitnesses reported one suspect, injured and in his underwear, attempting to hide in a swimming pool near the Shriner residence after fleeing down a bank.

Beyond her personal life, Jillian Shriner is a renowned nonfiction author. Weezer, established in 1992 and recognized for hits like “Say It Ain’t So,” comprises Rivers Cuomo, Patrick Wilson, Brian Bell, and Scott Shriner. The band has a sold-out show scheduled in London later this year.
