Wetherspoon fans have shared their upset online after the pub chain quietly axes a popular menu item across hundreds of its branches.
The pub chain recently confirmed that its Chicken Bites are “temporarily unavailable” in all its pubs. Priced at just £6.49, you can get 10 breaded chicken bites, chips, and a variety of sauces.
The confirmation came after fans noticed the menu item hadn’t been available at their local Spoons for a few weeks. One person rececntly posted to Reddit: “Where have the Chicken breast bites gone?! They’ve disappeared from my local spoons menu, not greyed out like they would if out of stock, completely removed in all forms.”
Another social media user said: “They’ve been out for ages now. Infuriating!” A third added: “Sounds pretty serious, hopefully it’s not too much and they’re back soon, my fiancé lived on them.”
Wetherspoons has now confirmed the move, with a spokesperson saying: “We can confirm that they [chicken bites] are currently not available on the menu in our pubs.”
Although the pub chain says the item is “temporarily” unavailable. It is unclear whether iut could make a return.

Fans shared their disappointment online with one customer posting: “Rip Wetherspoons chicken bites. It’s the worst day ever.” However, it is not the only thing to have been axed from Wetherspoon menus recently.
Last week, the pub chain announced that it was cutting steak, mixed grills and gammon from its pub menus as part of a cost-cutting plan. The reason for the move is due to the increased cost of meat, which has made the menu items the company’s “biggest loss-makers”.
The items will be removed from menus from May 14, however, on the same day it will also be introducing a few new menu items too – a range of gourmet burgers.

A spokesperson for the popular chain said: “Wetherspoon is making changes to its menu in May. This includes the removal of steaks, mixed grills and gammon on May 14. A new range of Gourmet Burgers will be introduced; The Big Smoke, Buffalo Burger and Cheese Meltdown, on Wed 14 May.
“There will also be a range of Korean style chicken meals added. “Wetherspoon is confident that its menu provides a variety of choices and value-for money meals. We appreciate that some customers will be disappointed with the decision to remove steaks and grills.”
The pub chain’s top brass John Huston told staff on Friday that the popular dishes would be disappearing in May after an increase in meat costs made them the company’s “biggest loss-makers”.
