“Wolf Attack on Young Girl in Greece Sparks Urgency”

-

A wolf attacked a young girl at a vacation spot in Greece, leaving her with bites and scratches. The incident occurred at Neos Marmaras on the Halkidiki peninsula, where the girl, a five-year-old from Serbia, was playing on the beach. Fortunately, her mother intervened and scared off the wolf before serious harm was done.

Following the attack, the child received medical treatment at a health center and was later transferred to a hospital as a precaution. Authorities are now searching for the wolf, which wildlife experts believe has become overly comfortable with human presence, a behavior uncommon among wolves.

Surveillance cameras have been installed in the area to locate the wolf, as the Halkidiki region is known to be inhabited by wolves and jackals. Residents and tourists have been cautioned to be vigilant, especially with dogs and children, as the wolf has been seen displaying bold behavior around human settlements.

In response to the incident, Iason Bantios from the organization Callisto emphasized the need for caution, advising against walking with dogs or children during late evenings and early mornings in Neos Marmaras. Efforts are underway to monitor the wolf’s movements using drones and set traps to capture the animal.

This marks the first recorded wolf attack on a human in Greece, highlighting the urgency of addressing the situation promptly. In a separate incident in the Netherlands, a six-year-old child was attacked by a wolf in a nature reserve, underscoring the growing concern over such encounters.
