“Welsh Man Jailed for Mistreating Wife on Benidorm Vacation”

-

A man has been sentenced to prison for mistreating his spouse during a vacation in Benidorm. Andrew Stockman, 54, ejected his wife Sandra from their holiday lodging for two days following an outburst in the popular tourist destination. The court revealed that the trip, which occurred during the Christmas season last year, was intended to be a much-needed break for the long-term couple.

The altercation marked a breaking point for Sandra, who had endured a long history of abuse, according to the judge. Prosecutor Richard Edwards disclosed that their marital issues escalated during their Christmas trip to Spain in 2024.

During their stay, Mrs. Stockman was caring for a sick friend who passed away. Despite her attempts to attend the funeral, Stockman prevented her from leaving. Subsequently, he expelled her from the accommodation without her passport, leaving her stranded in Benidorm until she managed to retrieve it and return home.

The court proceedings unveiled a pattern of physical abuse by Stockman towards his wife, occurring monthly, mostly fueled by alcohol. Despite owning and operating a B&B together in the last four years of their marriage, the emotional and verbal abuse persisted.

In a statement, Ms. Stockman expressed the profound impact of Stockman’s actions on her life, describing years of suffering and feeling controlled. She lamented the lost time spent in an abusive relationship, where she felt incapable of making decisions for herself.

Stockman, from Llay, North Wales, admitted to engaging in coercive and controlling behavior. Judge Timothy Petts, sentencing Stockman to three years and five months, condemned his recurring physical, verbal, and emotional abuse towards his wife, emphasizing the severity of his actions.
