“Warning: Fraudulent Emails Target Virgin Media O2 Users”

-

Virgin Media O2 users are being warned of a concerning email scam circulating in the UK following the closure of O2’s 3G mobile platform. While most customers are unaffected by this transition to faster services, scammers are taking advantage of the situation.

The fraudulent emails, designed to resemble official communications from Virgin Media O2, falsely claim that a SIM card upgrade is necessary due to the 3G switch-off. The subject line of the email reads “Alert: Switch to Your New 5G SIM for a Faster, Stronger Network.” Customers are strongly advised not to interact with these emails and should promptly delete them.

This phishing scam aims to deceive individuals into disclosing sensitive personal information. In some cases, scammers may even send a SIM card via courier and request the recipient to activate it using a provided PIN. The email further instructs users to log in to the O2 app with a given password and includes a deceptive “Contact Us” button that could lead victims directly to the scammers.

If successful, fraudsters could access private accounts, obtain personal data for identity theft, or cause financial harm. To safeguard against such scams, it is recommended to ignore suspicious emails and contact the service provider directly using verified contact information. Seeking a second opinion before taking any action is also advisable.
