Kelowna RCMP have reported the arrest and detention of an individual following a fire incident at Knox Mountain Park on Friday. Authorities closed off access to the park, situated in a residential neighborhood near the city’s central district, upon the discovery of smoke and flames on the mountainside. Both police and the fire department worked together to assist hikers down from the mountain, with concerns over high winds in the area. By 4:45 p.m. PT, emergency crews had successfully contained the flames while maintaining a presence at the scene.
Knox Mountain Park, recognized as Kelowna’s largest natural park spanning 3.85 square kilometers just north of downtown, had undergone controlled burning activities on October 16 as part of the city’s management efforts.
