Canadian swimmers Josh Liendo and Ilya Kharun showcased their exceptional talents at the swimming World Cup event in Toronto on Friday. Liendo claimed the gold medal in the men’s 100m freestyle, setting a new Canadian record with a time of 45.30 seconds. He outpaced Americans Jack Alexy and Chris Guiliano. Liendo expressed his joy, attributing his success to enjoying the swim and the positive momentum in the city.

On the other hand, Kharun triumphed in the 200m butterfly event, finishing with a time of 1:49.71. The Montreal native dominated the race, leaving behind competitors from Italy and the United States. Kharun reflected on his performance, noting his smooth execution throughout the race and the support from the enthusiastic crowd.

Liendo’s outstanding performance followed his previous world record achievement in the men’s 100m butterfly and his victory in the 50m freestyle event. Kharun’s win in the 200m butterfly marked his third consecutive triumph in the World Cup circuit, earning him a prize of $10,000.

In the men’s 200m individual medley, Finlay Knox of Okotoks, Alta., secured the third spot, with American Shaine Casas taking the lead. The competition showcased remarkable achievements, including Australian Mollie O’Callaghan setting a new world record in the women’s 200m freestyle event.

Additionally, Mary-Sophie Harvey from Trois-Rivières, Que., clinched the silver medal in the women’s 400m individual medley with a personal best time, expressing her satisfaction with the competition in Toronto. The event highlighted exceptional performances and memorable victories by talented swimmers from around the world.
