Ferrari’s CEO Criticizes Drivers; Endurance Team Shines

-

Ferrari’s top executive, John Elkann, has criticized Formula 1 drivers Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc after a disappointing showing at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix. Elkann urged the drivers to focus more on their driving and less on talking, as both failed to secure any points in the race, retiring due to separate incidents.

In contrast, Ferrari’s World Endurance Championship team achieved success at the Eight Hours of Bahrain on the same day. The trio of Alessandro Pier Guidi, Antonio Giovinazzi, and James Calado secured the drivers’ title, with Ferrari leading by 74 points in the manufacturers’ standings.

While the endurance team thrived, Ferrari’s Formula 1 season has been challenging, particularly for Hamilton, who struggled to adapt. Despite a Sprint race win in March, the overall season has been lackluster.

The issues seem deeper within Scuderia Ferrari, as highlighted by Leclerc’s inability to clinch a Grand Prix victory despite minimal errors. Elkann, present in Bahrain during the Grand Prix, blamed the drivers for Ferrari’s performance issues. He emphasized the team’s success in WEC and pit stops but criticized the drivers for not meeting expectations.

Currently placed fourth in the constructors’ championship, Ferrari has fallen behind Mercedes and Red Bull. They are the only top-four team yet to win a Grand Prix in the current season.

Hamilton, who faced a challenging race in Sao Paulo, expressed frustration with the team’s results but remained determined to bounce back. Leclerc acknowledged the team’s struggle for second place in the constructors’ championship and emphasized the need for flawless performance in the upcoming races.
