Elusive urban artist Banksy seemed to verify on Monday that a recent mural in London, featuring two children lying down and gesturing towards the sky, is his newest creation. The artist shared two images of the artwork on his official Instagram account the same day, following its emergence on a wall in Bayswater, west London, which triggered speculation about Banksy’s involvement.
The monochromatic mural, situated above a garage, portrays two individuals adorned in winter attire lying on the ground, with one of them pointing upwards. A similar image surfaced at the base of a tower in central London on the same day, although Banksy did not showcase that version on his social media.
Originating from Bristol, England, Banksy initiated his career by spray-painting buildings and has since risen to global fame as a prominent artist. His artistic creations and installations fetch millions at auctions and have attracted attention from thieves and vandals.
While Banksy’s works typically critique government policies related to migration and warfare, the recent mural appeared devoid of any overt political commentary. In a prior instance in September, Banksy garnered attention with a mural illustrating a judge wielding a gavel over an unarmed protester holding a blood-stained sign.
This particular artwork, displayed on the exterior of a Royal Courts of Justice building, was promptly concealed as authorities deemed it necessary to preserve the historical significance of the structure.
