Felix Auger-Aliassime Claims European Open Title

-

Montreal’s Felix Auger-Aliassime clinched yet another championship by securing the European Open title in Belgium over the weekend. The 25-year-old Canadian emerged victorious against Jiri Lehecka from the Czech Republic with a score of 7-6(2), 6-6(7), 6-2 in the ATP 250 tournament held on the hard courts in Brussels.

Auger-Aliassime, seeded as the No. 2 player in the tournament, displayed an impressive performance by delivering 17 aces during the intense two-hour and 34-minute match while winning 79% of his first-serve points. Despite losing the second set, he maintained his composure, converting two out of six break-point opportunities and denying Lehecka any chances to break his serve.

Reflecting on his victory, Auger-Aliassime mentioned, “It’s the final, so we put everything on the line. I feel like we were both extremely focused from the beginning. It was a high level for two sets, then you don’t know how things can go. But I’m obviously glad.”

This win marks Auger-Aliassime’s eighth career title and his third triumph of the year, following his earlier victories in Montpellier, France, and Adelaide, Australia at the beginning of 2025. With this achievement, he now shares the record for the most singles titles among Canadian male players in the Open era with Milos Raonic. Currently ranked 13th globally, Auger-Aliassime has descended from his former position of 6th in November 2022.
