“Canadian Duo Auger-Aliassime and Shapovalov Shine in Swiss Indoors”

-

Canadians Felix Auger-Aliassime and Denis Shapovalov advanced to the quarterfinals of the Swiss Indoors tournament in Basel, Switzerland, with impressive straight-set victories. Auger-Aliassime, a two-time champion, showcased his skill by delivering 28 aces in a 7-6 (7), 7-6 (5) win against Marin Cilic of Croatia. Maintaining a strong performance, he won 96% of points on his first serve without facing any break points, extending his winning streak to six matches on indoor courts following his recent triumph at the Brussels Open. As the fifth seed, Auger-Aliassime remains in contention for a spot at the ATP Finals in Turin.

On the other hand, Shapovalov secured a 7-6 (5), 6-2 victory over Valentin Royer of France, utilizing his powerful serves to strike 11 aces. The player from Richmond Hill, Ontario, broke his opponent’s serve three times and excelled in winning 76% of first-serve points. In the upcoming matches, Shapovalov is set to face Joao Fonseca of Brazil, while Auger-Aliassime will take on Jaume Munar of Spain, who caused an upset by defeating second-seeded Ben Shelton from the United States in straight sets.

If both Auger-Aliassime and Shapovalov secure wins in the quarterfinals, they are poised to meet in an exciting all-Canadian semifinal showdown at the tournament.
