Virgin Media is set to upgrade some broadband customers to newer routers for enhanced performance. The company will be rolling out advancements to users still utilizing older Hub 3 and Hub 4 devices. The newer Hub 5 boasts Wi-Fi 6 technology, promising faster and more reliable connections.

Eligible customers will receive email notifications over the next few weeks and months as the upgrade takes place gradually throughout 2026. Virgin Media highlighted that the Hub 5, equipped with Wi-Fi 6 and seven internal antennas, ensures stronger and more consistent coverage at home.

Virgin Media will directly contact qualifying customers, eliminating the need for immediate action until they receive communication. Customers can also verify their eligibility by accessing their My Virgin Media account online.

To determine your router model, check the sticker on the back or bottom of the device or log in to the Virgin Media Connect app for verification.

Upgrading to the Hub 5 router can significantly enhance broadband experiences, offering wider Wi-Fi coverage, improved stability, and support for future updates. The Hub 5 is optimized for faster Gig1 speeds, facilitating quicker downloads and streaming. Additionally, Gig1 speeds enable users to download a full HD movie in under 40 seconds, surpassing the UK average by over 10 times.

Wi-Fi 6, the latest wireless networking technology, provides faster speeds, increased efficiency, and superior performance in busy environments. It accommodates more connected devices simultaneously and delivers enhanced performance across the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands. Wi-Fi 6 is energy-efficient, making it ideal for modern smart homes with high data demands and multiple connected devices.

While Wi-Fi 7 technology is also available, Wi-Fi 6 remains suitable for the average user’s needs.
