Spacey stated that he is presently residing in hotels and Airbnbs, moving to locations where work opportunities arise. The actor, known for his roles in Netflix’s “House of Cards” and films like “American Beauty” and “The Usual Suspects,” described his financial situation as challenging, attributing it to a lack of work in recent years.
Despite admitting to facing significant financial burdens over the past seven years with minimal income and substantial expenses, Spacey clarified that he is not homeless in the traditional sense. He emphasized that while he is living in temporary accommodations, he is not in a situation comparable to those experiencing homelessness or severe financial hardship.
Acknowledging the support he has received from numerous individuals offering assistance and expressing concern for his well-being after his financial struggles became public, Spacey expressed gratitude in a social media post. Following allegations of sexual misconduct in 2017, Spacey faced legal battles, including a civil trial in which he was found not to have assaulted accuser Anthony Rapp. Additionally, he was acquitted of various sex offense charges in a London court in 2023.
Netflix severed ties with Spacey amid the #MeToo movement, leading to a legal dispute where he was ordered to pay over $30 million to the production company of “House of Cards.” Despite these challenges, Spacey remains hopeful for a career resurgence, particularly if acclaimed directors like Martin Scorsese or Quentin Tarantino offer him roles.
