In the six weeks following the truce agreement between Israel and Hamas to end their two-year conflict, there have been frequent reports of Israeli attacks in Gaza. The truce, signed on Oct. 9, marked the initial phase of a peace plan proposed by U.S. President Donald Trump. However, key disagreements were deferred for future discussions, resulting in a temporary freeze of the conflict without a definitive resolution.
Both parties have accused each other of violating the terms of the agreement and hindering progress on subsequent steps outlined in the peace plan. Utilizing data from Gaza’s Ministry of Health, compiled by the Tech for Palestine collective, CBC News has been monitoring the daily reported deaths since Oct. 11.
As part of the ceasefire plan’s first phase, Israel agreed to withdraw to a designated boundary known as the “yellow line,” extending across the north, south, and east of Gaza. Despite this agreement, Israel retains control over more than half of Gaza. Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz has warned of using force against any attempts to breach this line.
Several lethal incidents have been documented near and beyond the demarcated yellow line, including reports of Israeli military encroachment east of Gaza City. Gaza’s Health Ministry reports over 300 Palestinian fatalities and nearly 900 injuries since the ceasefire commenced on Oct. 10.
According to Gaza’s government media office, Israel has breached the ceasefire nearly 500 times, involving direct shootings, military incursions, bombings, and destruction of civilian structures. Israeli authorities have refuted claims of advancing the yellow line further into Gaza.
Israel has reported the deaths of three soldiers since the ceasefire, citing engagements with numerous fighters during their military operations. The conflict has resulted in a substantial toll on Palestinians, with close to 70,000 fatalities and over 170,800 serious injuries, as per Gaza’s Health Ministry. The escalation of hostilities initiated after a Hamas-led assault on southern Israel on Oct. 7, 2023, resulting in significant casualties and hostages, as reported by Israeli sources.
