Some returning nominees this year are Billy Idol and Joy Division/New Order, alongside musical siblings like The Black Crowes and Oasis who have had public disputes and recent reconciliations. Phil Collins, known for hits like “In the Air Tonight” and “One More Night,” has eight Grammys, including the 1985 album of the year award for “No Jacket Required.” Lauryn Hill made history with her hip-hop album “The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill” by winning the Grammy album of the year in 1999.
Mariah Carey, a third-time nominee, has achieved 19 No. 1 hits on the Billboard Hot 100. The Wu-Tang Clan revolutionized rap with their debut album “Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers)” in 1993. INXS dominated the late-1980s charts with hits like “Need You Tonight” and “Devil Inside,” while Melissa Etheridge and Iron Maiden are recognized for their significant contributions to music.
Shakira, New Edition, and Pink have also made their mark with chart-topping hits, showcasing a blend of Latin music, R&B, and pop elements. The 2026 nominees represent a diverse range of talents that have shaped the ever-evolving landscape of Rock & Roll.
The inductees for 2026 will be announced in April, alongside recipients of special committee awards for musical influence, musical excellence, and the Ahmet Ertegun non-performer award. Eligible artists must have released their first commercial recording at least 25 years before induction and will be voted on by a panel of over 1,200 artists, historians, and music industry professionals. Last year’s inductees included Cyndi Lauper, Outkast, and The White Stripes, among others.
