Israeli Airstrikes Kill 5 in Gaza, Violating Truce

-

Israeli airstrikes in Khan Younis, Gaza Strip, resulted in five fatalities and 18 injuries, according to local health authorities. Medics reported that one strike on a house in Bani Suhaila led to the deaths of three individuals, including a baby girl, and injured 15 others. Another strike in the nearby town of Abassan killed a man and wounded three more. Israel’s military acknowledged the strikes but claimed no knowledge of casualties, while both Hamas and Israel accused each other of violating the fragile truce. Subsequently, a fifth Palestinian was reportedly killed by Israeli gunfire in Abassan, as confirmed by Nasser Hospital officials.

Over the past 24 hours, Gaza’s Health Ministry recorded at least 32 deaths, including 12 children and eight women, marking the highest toll since October 29. Israel’s actions came in response to attacks by Palestinian militants on its troops the day before. Hamas condemned the airstrikes as a dangerous escalation and called for intervention from Arab mediators, Turkey, and the United States, the ceasefire brokers.

Residents observed a shift in yellow barricades marking areas under Israeli control in the Shejaia suburb, east of Gaza City, moving westward by 100 meters. Reports emerged of the Israeli army expanding its controlled zones and displacing residents in Al-Sha’af, east of Gaza City. Notably, the ceasefire’s effectiveness was questioned by Palestinians in Gaza City’s Zeitoun suburb, where a building housing displaced families was struck, resulting in casualties. The ongoing violence, despite the ceasefire, has raised concerns about the situation in Gaza.

Meanwhile, a Human Rights Watch report accused Israel of committing war crimes and crimes against humanity in the forced displacement of tens of thousands of Palestinians from three West Bank refugee camps in early 2025. The report highlighted the need for international action to hold Israeli officials accountable for these actions and prevent further abuses.
