Health Canada suggests testing homes for a minimum of 91 days, ideally spanning three to 12 months for precise results, particularly during colder periods when windows and doors are typically shut.
For homes surpassing the national guideline of 200 becquerels per cubic meter for indoor radon levels, mitigation measures become imperative. The Take Action on Radon program furnishes a directory of certified radon professionals capable of installing mitigation systems, predominantly involving a pipe equipped with a fan to expel radon outdoors before it can infiltrate the residence. While homeowners often bear the cost of these interventions, certain regions offer financial assistance through programs like Ontario’s home warranty coverage and Manitoba’s installment financing scheme.
