Texas country music artist Charley Crockett has called off his tour in Canada, which includes a Saskatoon show, after being denied entry into the country over a prior drug conviction. Originally planned to perform at Saskatoon’s TCU Place, Crockett was also set to make stops in Winnipeg, Windsor, Toronto, Ottawa, Montreal, Niagara Falls, and Calgary. In a statement on his Instagram account, the 41-year-old expressed regret, acknowledging the lingering impact of his past.
Crockett’s entry denial was linked to a 2016 felony conviction for marijuana possession and trafficking in Virginia. Despite attempts to enter Canada through Vancouver and Kelowna, British Columbia, he and his band were prohibited under section 44(1) of the Immigration and Refugee Act due to the past conviction.
Having previously toured Canada in 2024 and performed in Toronto and Saskatchewan, Crockett conveyed his apologies to his Canadian fans, recognizing their support. Saskatchewan musician Jake Vaadeland, scheduled to open for Crockett, also expressed regret for the missed opportunity to perform.
As a prominent figure in country-folk music, Charley Crockett has released 15 albums since 2015. His upcoming album, “Age Of The Ram,” set for release on April 3, is part of his Sagebrush Trilogy, following the success of his 2025 album “Dollar a Day.” Crockett’s ongoing 2026 North American tour, which started in Seattle, is poised to continue in Pennsylvania on March 7.
The cancellation of Crockett’s Canadian tour has had repercussions on the local arts and culture scene in Saskatoon. Kirby Wirchenko, TCU Place’s director of theatre and programming, highlighted the broader impact on the community, including artists, staff, and disappointed fans. Refunds are being processed for ticket holders affected by the tour cancellation, which was anticipated as a part of an “Americana roots week” at TCU Place, featuring a lineup of diverse musical acts.
