The agricultural sector, consuming a significant portion of Iran’s freshwater, is inefficient, leading to further strain on water resources.
Issues such as outdated agricultural practices draining aquifers and the heavy reliance on hydropower and fossil fuels exacerbate the water crisis in Iran.
To address the ongoing crisis, experts emphasize the urgent need for rainfall in critical regions and the implementation of strategic water management practices.
While short-term solutions like rationing water and encouraging population movement away from urban areas can provide temporary relief, long-term reforms are crucial to ensure sustainable water resource management in Iran.
Despite the challenges, experts stress the importance of transitioning to a resilience-based water management approach and reducing reliance on unsustainable practices.
