Hollywood Actor Robert Carradine Passes Away at 71

-

Robert Carradine, a well-known Hollywood actor from the famous acting Carradine family, has passed away at the age of 71. Carradine, recognized for his roles in popular films like “Revenge of the Nerds” and the Disney Channel’s “Lizzie McGuire,” struggled with bipolar disorder for twenty years before succumbing to suicide, as confirmed by his family in a statement to the media on Tuesday.

His brother, Keith Carradine, emphasized that Robert’s battle with bipolar disorder should not be stigmatized, stating, “It is an illness that overwhelmed him, and I want to honor him for his courage in facing it and his kind spirit. He was exceptionally talented, and his absence will be deeply felt every day.”

Despite working in the entertainment industry for over four decades and collaborating with esteemed directors, Robert Carradine did not achieve the same level of global fame as his more renowned siblings, Keith and David Carradine. David, who passed away in 2009, was a well-known actor.

Acting was not Robert’s initial career choice, as he had aspirations of becoming a race-car driver. However, he was introduced to the audience through television series like “Bonanza” and the movie “The Cowboys” in the early 1970s. He later appeared in various films, including “Mean Streets,” “Coming Home,” and “The Big Red One.”

Robert Carradine’s most notable success came in 1984 with the comedy film “Revenge of the Nerds,” where he portrayed the lead character, Lewis Skolnick. He continued to reprise this role in subsequent sequels and television adaptations, as well as making appearances in other projects like “Lizzie McGuire” and “Django Unchained.”

Throughout his career, Robert faced personal challenges, including a 2015 car accident in Colorado that led to injuries for him and his former wife, Edith. He is survived by his three children, including actor Ever Carradine.

His daughter, Ever, expressed her deep connection with her father, highlighting his unwavering love and support throughout their lives together. The entertainment industry mourns the loss of Robert Carradine, a talented actor whose contributions will be remembered fondly.
