British comedian Russell Brand has entered a plea of not guilty to fresh charges of rape and sexual assault in Southwark Crown Court. These new allegations, dating back to 2009, add to the existing charges against Brand involving four women. In April, the 50-year-old entertainer was charged with two counts of rape, two counts of sexual assault, and one count of indecent assault, which are said to have occurred between 1999 and 2005 in Bournemouth and London.
A trial, anticipated to span four to five weeks, is set for June. Additionally, a forthcoming hearing will determine whether the new accusations will be combined with the ongoing case. Brand’s legal counsel has requested more time to address these recent charges.
Sporting a white cowboy hat and sunglasses, Brand appeared at court on Tuesday. When asked about his feelings, Brand, who disclosed his Christian faith in 2024, responded by saying he felt “blessed.” A prominent figure on British television in the 2000s, Brand was recognized for his flamboyant persona and served as a BBC radio presenter.
The actor, best known for his provocative stand-up comedy shows, has struggled with substance abuse issues and retreated from mainstream media in recent times. Despite this, he has amassed a substantial online following by sharing videos on wellness, conspiracy theories, and his religious beliefs.
