“Scottish Teen Mitchell Lawrie Makes Darts History”

-

Mitchell Lawrie has made history by becoming the youngest player to secure three senior men’s titles, breaking Luke Littler’s previous record. The talented Scottish teenager claimed victory at the WDF Irish Classic in Killarney just days after turning 15.

In a dominant performance, Lawrie outplayed Ronan McDonagh in the final, hitting four maximum 180s and maintaining an impressive 98.60 average to secure a 5-1 win. Prior to this, he also clinched the Irish Classic Youths title with a 4-1 triumph over Kaya Basal, boasting an average of 90.95.

Lawrie’s family, including his father Fraser and grandfather Dougie, were present at the INEC Arena in Kerry, Ireland, to witness his success and show their support.

Surpassing Littler’s achievement at the age of 15 years and five months, Lawrie now gears up for the upcoming men’s and youth WDF world championships at Lakeside later this month.

While Lawrie prepares for his future challenges, the reigning PDC World Champion is set to defend his title at Alexandra Palace. Lawrie, who earlier won the British Open and Welsh Open, will have ample time to get ready for a potential face-off with his predecessor.

Not eligible to compete against Littler in PDC competitions until he reaches 16, Lawrie’s family remains focused on his individual journey. In an interview with The Sun, Dougie emphasized that they want Lawrie to carve his own path in the sport, separate from comparisons with Littler.

Dougie also shared that he played a significant role in teaching Lawrie how to play darts from a very young age, instilling in him a competitive and aggressive approach that has contributed to his success on the board.

Before the rise of modern darts stars like Luke Littler, Michael van Gerwen, and Luke Humphries, there existed a golden era of darts with legendary players such as Eric Bristow, Jocky Wilson, John Lowe, and others. As the World Championship approaches, this edition reflects on the iconic figures of the game.

For those interested in delving further into the history of darts, a special edition is available for purchase online or at select retailers, offering a nostalgic look back at the sport’s legends.
