AFC Toronto’s Marko Milanovic has been honored as the Coach of the Year in the Northern Super League. Milanovic guided Toronto to the top spot in the league standings during its inaugural season, boasting a commendable record of 16 wins, 6 draws, and 3 losses. Toronto accumulated 51 points, securing a comfortable lead of 12 points over their closest rivals, Ottawa Rapid and Vancouver Rise, who both ended the season with 39 points.
The Coach of the Year award was determined through a voting process involving the six NSL coaches, each ineligible to cast a vote for themselves. This voting system mirrored the one used for the players’ end-of-year awards, where players vote for their peers.
Toronto topped the six-team league in goals scored with 42 and held the second position in goals allowed, narrowly behind Montreal.
Toronto is set to kick off the playoffs against Montreal on Saturday for the first leg of the semifinals, while Vancouver will host Ottawa on Tuesday.
Before his tenure at Toronto, Milanovic amassed over ten years of coaching experience at North Toronto Soccer, including managing the team in League1 Ontario. Additionally, he served as an assistant coach at Toronto Metropolitan University.
