Rapper Maxon Margiela has passed away at the age of 21. The emerging music talent died in Miami on Sunday, just a week after a reported suicide attempt.
The Orange County Medical Examiner’s Office has confirmed that they are handling the late artist’s case, although the autopsy is still pending. Reports indicate that Maxon, originally named Mason Reyes, had tried to take his own life a week prior.
Margiela rose to fame on SoundCloud, releasing his first album, #healthy, in November last year. His popularity grew significantly, amassing over 100,000 monthly listeners on Spotify.
His career soared when he signed with Columbia Records earlier this year. In July, he unveiled his second mixtape, #filthy, along with several new tracks, including “Kiss The Future,” for which he previewed a music video on Instagram.
Fans have expressed their condolences on social media, praising Maxon’s positive impact on the music industry and his supporters. Many highlighted his kindness and unwavering support for his fans.
Earlier in the year, Maxon made an appearance at New York Fashion Week, where he mingled with fellow musicians. His songs often centered on themes of partying, relationships, and financial success. In one of his tracks, “My Time,” he hinted at his imminent rise to stardom.
